As a radio ham with a full HF licence and call sign (G8PK), what call sign do I use when I sail away to foreign parts? Naturally I also have a VHF and again a call sign (MWQE8 I think )but which one do I use.

if you use your marine call sign on hf when abroad, the hams won't talk to you. no reason not to use your usual call sign with the G to identify you as a brit (unless you're sailing around the middle east of course!)

When you are on board at sea it will be G8PK/MM (Gulf Eight Papa Kilo Maritime Mobile).
Some countries may restrict operation when in port. When on shore it will be G8PK/(country prefix) in accordance with the CEPT recommendations.
I notice you are one of the old G8 plus two letter calls before they issued g8 plus three letter calls to class B licencees. You may get some comments from newcomers who think all G8s are class B licencees!!

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info guys.

I can see people thinking I'm G8PKM molbile and not G8PK maritime mobile. Yes the 2 letters has often been missunderstood. I'll check out these CEPT country codes, thats a new one to me.

. . . . middle east will be a no go area anyway.
