Windy 8800. A bit old but still gives the newbies a run for their money at 46kts. Hopefully with easterlies forecast this w/e, we will launch from Pwllheli and take her home to Porthmadog. Not far - 15nm. Likely to freeze my damn face off though. Here is an impersonation of me at the helm...

Dave,

I have to say having seen you boat a couple of times, it certainly doesn'y look its age - I think thats partly down to the styling and largely to the owner's tlc! She will be a great buy for the next owner as and when you move on.

You can always tell when someone really likes their boat - it's a shame when people don't - and even more of shame when you see 2-3 yr old boats looking a real mess because no one cares for them.

ps is this post too slimy?

Agree with the sentiments above regarding how it shows that owners love there boats. You wanna see some of the two/three year old boats near us. Absolute disgrace. If I was running the place I would get the yard lads round with the pressure washer etc and send the owner the bill. Talk about more money than sense.

the one in the picture its a dutch barge, but when I sell this Im going get a much smaller, and with far less maintainance, a 26' freeman cruiser or similar. Just for weekends during the summer, in the winter it will reside in a boat shed.

& not being as young as we were once, plan to get a grappling iron on a rope to throw out to the canal bank and pull on this in to bring the boat to the canal side, then step off the boat. Don't care how daft this looks, I'll just have to be carefull not to hit somone with the iron ! My uncle used to do this, and it works.

No, not too slimey at all Benny1. Much as personal praise embarasses me, praise for the old girl (boat, not wife) is welcome any time - and BTW, Coney Island is 19 yo this year.

I agree wholeheartedly about boats and tlc. I have seen some real stinkers that are 2-3 years old, and I always wonder what on earth they bought it for in the first place. They must have more money than sense. I just love boats, and I can't stand mechanical or cosmetic imperfections. Equally, I enjoy using it, and last year I notched up approx 500nm along the coast.

Glad to see you are getting some quality use out of her.

19yo hay? That will make her a 1986 boat then (I am good at Maths, me). Our second and third boats were both Draco's so similar to the Windy. They were great boats and very well built. Nothing ever went wrong withthe boats themselves - only the engines!

I am also a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the boat - so much so that my mates are forever taking the mickey out of me for my incessant cleaning.

Just had a look at the tides for Easter and they are pants with regard to going places for lunch etc. High waters are all in the morning or evening. Bugger...

Hope you get yours launched this weekend.

Ben

She was only £33,000 when new (I still have the original receipt and it was bought direct from Windy) and I have just had her revalued at £25,000. Not bad depreciation for 19 years, but I suspect the later years have been kind to her in terms of market value.

And there is more...when I bought the boat, I noticed the HIN plate on the port side. This was only the 7th Windy 8800 produced and all it says is ....
