Got a letter yesterday from a Spanish lottery telling me I'd won 3rd prize of 610kEuros and all I have to do is send them a copy of my passport and my bank details. They also told me I shouldn't tell anyone, but I know the forum will be just as excited as I am.
The letter actually looked quite authentic and was really posted from Spain - is Mr Plod likely to be vaguely interested or do I just bin the lot?

I think if you go to police website or Home office they have a 419 department for scams . maybe worth forwarding it on.

Don`t you think its genuine?

If you send me a pdf of your passport and your bank details, I'll pass them on so you can benefit from my good luck. I'll only need 10% of the winnings up front, as probably so will the Spanish "agent", so you will still get 80% of the win.

You are the milk of human kindness, but I think my passport may be out of date. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My future ex'SWMBO did go for this one without telling me - same amount - and it cost us/her a fortune. I won't say how much except that I could have had a very nice boat upgrade....

I have an open mind. But a closed wallet.
I have a small trimaran project partly started so something to just mosey about the lake on, in the the meantime. I really enjoyed the Heron dinghy, but found with two saily boats it didn't get much use. So maybe a small mobo to leave on the mooring and use on the windless days (of which we had loads last year) and then the trimaran for more exciting conditions.
(I've also seen very interesting pics of trimarans with foils)

I'm not too bothered. If she doesn't sell I can cope. It's just that motoring in a sail boat (even on a windless day) seems so defeatist. If we see someone else sailing we switch off and raise sail. Then spend an hour in the same spot as the wind has died again. The other guy has by that time wrapped up his sails and motored off! Then you drop sails and the wind blows up something alarming.
I would really prefer some more settled weather this year.

Re: What lottery scam should I reply to?

I have been receiving emails every night, usually around 0200 hrs, from every possible variation on a theme of the UK National Lottery telling me about all the loot I have won.

I didnt know that the UK Lottery Office hours were all through the night - hope the poor souls working there get paid overtime....

Summat that baffles me though - they obviously know so much about me, in order to inform me of this, but then they still want to know if I am married and all sorts of other info. They dont ask for the bank account details yet - I think they have 'wised up' not to be too blatant at first.

But then they always make the ultimate mistake at the end, when they sign off, and call themselves Mr. Peters Wilson or similar - maybe a plural name has more clout with the African scammers, as 'tis always them who call themselves Mister....

And then there is all this untapped cash in forgotten about bank accounts all over Africa, all owned by wealthy industrialists who died in a specifically mentioned (BBC News from 6 years ago) airplane crash - geez, that plane must have been chokka full of industrialists, as they all seem to have been on it at once.....

Gotta hand it to them (no, not my cash - havent got any!) for showing initiative - they are bound to sucker in a few gullible souls when they send out a million emails, and thats all they need....

Although what baffles me is that these emails always come directly into my IN box, rather than the Spam folder - have they got some special program for fooling the Virus checker to pretend that they are not spamming, and are genuinely interested in establishing a one-to-one honest, god fearing friendship with me?
Just wondering.

Re: What lottery scam should I reply to?

If you win anything on thre UK lottery, the mail (which probably does go ouut late at night) reads

Important (or exciting I can't recall) news about your National lottery ticket or some such -- whether you win 10 pounds as I did a couple of weeks back, or millions -- which I have not *sigh*

It then directs you to check your account online

Re: What lottery scam should I reply to?

Yes... but the UK lottery is boring and unimaginative! They actually expect one to cough up for a ticket before having any chance of winning a tenner! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Whereas I can win millions each month on these other lotteries and nobody even expects me to buy a ticket! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
