What was the best thing you ever bought for use on your boat and what difference did it make.

For me recently I bought a washing machine (twin tub) and it has saved me a fortune, it cost me £50 and saved me that in a couple of months. Here in Carrickfergus the laundry costs a small fortune and you are not able to do it yourself, it also has a time restraint and must be done M-F between 9-5, it has to be a service wash. One bag is generally £10.20 .

The Eberspacher is one which I think will be top of the list.

Best single thing fro me was the ecology water filter, especially since getting to the med where water is sometimes not too good. Already paid for itself and more importantly do not have to carry heavy bottles of water, sometimes over long distances.

well, ignoring heating which is pretty much essential, the single most used item we've purchased recently was a folding draining rack (http://www.force4.co.uk/604/Force-4-Foldaway-Draining-Rack.html). Like many modern small to medium sized boats, our fridge opens vertically into the main worktop next to the sink and we were getting fed up with washing up water draining down into it. That little rack folds up small for storage, but holds all the washing up for a three course meal for two - more at a pinch.

Just bought an ice cube maker from Makro. £59.99 with the VAT. Same machine at Amazon for £160!!!

Making ice in the boat fridge usually accelerates the icing up the matrix on the VD15E evaporator and uses a lot of energy to make only eight cubes.

Now we will be able to make a decent amount of ice on the inverter in the motoring up, anchoring and mooring finale to each jouirney.

G&T anyone?

Chas

Interesting pair of responses - the first extollling the virtues of an ice maker, and the second singing the praises of a diesel fuelled heater! :-)

I would say the washing machine. I don't know what HWMBO would say but I'm sure that he would agree that having a happy wife is worth the space and water that the washing machine uses!

An EchoPilot forward looking sonar. Tells you when the charts are wrong because it shows you what you are about to hit. Also it allows you to explore areas with confidence that you may have kept well clear of.
