.............. charging for an overnight stay at locks this year?

It was just over a fiver last year, which was pretty reasonable, I hope it hasn't gone up too much.
Does anyone know?

Doesnt it vary from lock to lock?

Teddington appears to be charging £7 when it was £5.50 last year.

Cookham always seemed very high (at least what BCC charged for moorings there was very high)

Not sure what the EA are charging at locks but when comparing costs, bear in mind varying levels "facilities" provided.

rings / bollards against having to provide your own pins
I believe some of the locks also provide toilets / showers, which you wont find at Fawley Meadow.

So if providing facilities which are not elsewhere, then surely a slightly higher fee is reasonable to pay for said facilities.

Its all about location in my book, most lock cuts are a long way from anywhere and wrong side of locked gates (i know there are exceptions) and hence not as good as Windsor/Henley.

Personally I think lock cuts should be a blanket £5 a night.

It's now done on length chaps ...

0-5m £5.50
5-15 m £7.00
15+ £8.50

The prices above are for what are called 'unserviced' moorings. ie , no electric or services.

The prices were altered to take into account the large numbers of narrowboats and dutch barges that we are seeing now that were just paying the blanket £5.50 fee . I think you'll accept that we have to generate revenue ... No one seems to grumble too much , probably less than 5 a year at Teddington , a tiny percentage.

What do you get at Mill Meadows for your £50 a night ? a butler ?

It has actually been different for two years now.

I have actually suggested in the recent past that these moorings could be added to the EA 24 hour moorings plan and we hard pressed licence payers get to moor for free - including lock lay-byes where appropriate. Or, perhaps a special reduced rate for annual licence holders.

Lets face it, the only reason there is a fee at locks is because there is somebody there to collect the money - and I suspect that gets circumvented or overlooked on occasion, late arrivers and early leavers etc etc.

"Lets hope Steevie from SRB Moorings is not reading this..."

No, he doesn't, but his close friend Andy ("Out in The Dinghy") does, but it's really about what HRR want to charge, at Fawley Meadow at least.

Down here it is £5.00 per night on the posh moorings ie.Yalding and Allington but free on the pile moorings adjacent to all locks out in the wilds.(bring your own gang plank.)

And when you only pay £6 for Fawley Meadow which is benchmark to me, £7 at a lock is a rip off in my book....

When I last spoke to SRB (Steve?) he said it was due to go up to £6.50 this year, not sure if it has yet thought?

Ah , but this is the Royal River Thames , don't you know ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Seriously though , our mooring facilities have improved a hundredfold over the last few years. The whole upper layby ( all quarter mile of it ) has been rebuilt and refurbished at a cost of about £1.5 million. Before ( i agree ) it was dreadful , almost an embarrassment to ask people for mooring fees , but now , it's a wonderful place to stay for a bit.

The noise of the weir to lull you off to sleep , friendly lock staff , two pubs and several restaurants in close vicinity .... lovely.

Surprisingly it hasn't gone up (at least hadn't last weekend)
Still excellent value and shows up the high costs of locks which has been "overcooked".

Re: What are the EA...........and while we are at it ......

And if you can now do something about the tides.....

Perhaps you could have a word with a higher authority and arrange for the tides to only go in and out during civilised hours......say between 9 to 5 weekdays and 10 till 1pm on weekends ?

This would be to the benefit of all with no silly crack of dawn departures.
Perhaps we should vote on it........all in favour ?

Re: What are the EA...........and while we are at it ......

12 Pubs, 34 Restaurants, 1 large Dog toilet facility, plus the chance to naff off early and avoid paying.

Similar to Teddington, in fairness.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
