My first proper trip out!

We left Brighton for Littlehampton at 10.30 am Saturday morning. I have never seen the sea like that before - absolutely calm and flat - like a mill pond.

Had plotted my course and set the GPS. Reading a healthy 29/30 knots at 4000 rpm. With it being so calm managed to spend some time trimming the leg which finally gave us an extra knot. Now know best position on the trim (after 2 months). /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Had planned to take an hour to Littlehampton - took all of 35 mins. The entrance is a right nightmare - very narrow and shallow - but coming in on the tide. All my calculations had worked out. Very pleased.

Moored up and had a look at the Zap Cats and power boats - stunning craft. Had a quick look at the marina. Am only used to Brighton so this came as quite a shock in size and layout. Very small. Staff though are very friendly.

Then went back out to watch the races from a birds eye view. Fantastic. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif Then headed back in a force 2, wind with tide doing 26/27 knots. Again beautifully calm.

Filled her back up in Brighton - had used £50 and travelled 46 nm. So about £1 / nm. Can't wait to get back out now - sodding work! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

I've really got the bug now. What a Saturday!

Next time the Solent (possibly)?

You were right about the entrance. Came in a couple of hours after low water so tide was quite manageable. Coming out though completely different. High tide, fast flow coming in - and the number of boats about. A little unnerving at first but harbour master advised us out. Many thanks to them. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Unfortunately this weekend down in Plymouth so will miss the good weather - and unable to get out of office this week (landed new contract). Timing is a right bugger!! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif Hopefully it won't be too long before I can get out again. Will let you know when coming over. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Well done, you will find that you keep going that little further each time now, just the fuel bills get bigger /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I am thinking of trying Littlehampton for a weekend, I looked at Larson boats there when I was looking for my first boat, so know the marina and the area. They have a trailer park and launch the boat for you.
