A friend has just had his marina annual mooring invoice.
He pay's £3600 for his pontoon space
He takes his boat out from November to March and pays £140 a month for a space in the car park while the marina use his pontoon space and get additional revenue from it.

So, the marina get an annual fee, paid for a space ashore and reuse of the empty space.

Is he being ripped off?

We were in a nice expensive marina over the weekend and all Fiona and I kept saying to each other was 'it's nice to not have to row to the looe but I wish we weren't so close to everyone else', and that was with a nice berth on the edge, with a view.

Only if that isn't the "going rate" elsewhere locally. I suspect that the demand for marina berths where he is is far greater than supply and berth costs follow the same market logic as house prices! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

hmmm, pay marina for rent of berth + use of hard standing, while they rent out your berth and get paid again from someone else for 3 months or whatever.

pay landlord/whoever for rent of house, leave it empty while you go off cruising for 3 months or whatever. Do they rent your house out to someone else and get paid twice while you are gone?

The deal with premier is up to 3 months on the hard included in your berthing fee's. Seems to be taking the pee to charge for being on the hard after already charging for your berth and then rub salt into the wound by letting your berth out whilst you're on the hard.

Even in the "Frozen North" (Fleetwood) this practice is normal. A berth isn't yours it belongs to the marina. Thay have the right to move you around as they wish and certainly to reuse the space whilst you are away. Hard standing is however inclusive with your annual berthing fees, no matter how long you require /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here in 'Down Town' Hesketh Bank I am charged a fixed rate, whether afloat or ashore, mind you my 'pride and joy' has not actually been in the water since I moved her there, and she is the best part of fifty foot long ! Either way I KNOW it is loads less than you poor sods are paying in the south.
(Hesketh Bank is located on the River Douglas about 10 miles SW of Preston along the River Ribble)

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif why doesn't he just leave the boat in the water and take it out for a week when its antifouled. If I was paying £300 a month I'd be using the thing as a holiday flat every month even if the weather was too bad to go sailing.
