Popeye is now in the water. Looks stunning. All cleaned and new covers.

The reason for posting this:

Went down to the boat yesterday evening to show SWMBO for the first time. Thought I would check the radio, gps etc... and fire up the engine. Show SWMBO how quiet the engine is. So... as previously shown by marina I make sure controls are in neutral, turn ignition key, engine fires up and then dies. Do this 7 times. No luck. Start to get worried. The look on SWMBO's face - you are not taking me out in this. You've gone and bought a dud!!

We then go to get something to eat, but pass reception to the marina on way. Pop in to drop keys off so can call engineer out today. Something clicks as am about to hand keys over. The Kill Cord. Didn't connect it.

After dinner, back to boat, connect Kill Cord, fires up first time.

SWMBO happier now. What a plonker...

Anything else I should look out for from your experiences.

It happens to the best of us. I can recall a certain Chief Engineer being unable to start the engine of a 9,000 ton freighter causing us to miss the tide. The problem? similar to yours, the fuel cock wasn't on.

Favourite is to forget fuel, and also batteries, and being in neutral, No- make that the middle of neutral as there is usually a badly aligned solenoid that won't let you start unless in neutral. Also test briefly that the gears work before casting lines off (as per my last posts and spoiled weekend!) A brief radio check is advisable but not mandatory -If fitted...

Testing flares and lifejacket inflation is possibly going a bit too far (unless you answer to 'Happy1')
