Not long ago sold my wooden 38 footer. Been uncertain of what to replace her with but now decided to get a plastic 30 footer (please don't say sacrilege!). Need to get it to Canary Islands next year.
I've looked at elderly Westerleys like the Pentland but I think people are holding on to the good ones. Not ruled out motor sailors either.
Any plastic yachties with advice as to the best buy for about 20 grand?

Do a search on popular websites like yachtworld and boatshed, and type in your basic requirements - I am assuming you could say 'fibreglass, 30', fin keel(?), 20k' and see what comes up - should be a good choice and range!

Here is a search on Boatshed using the above criteria - quite a varied choice of vessels available!

With that journey and budget in mind I would suggest something like a Trintella 29 or Elizabethan 30.

You should look at a Seamaster 925. Roomy for its length and age, good sea boat. At least two have crossed the atlantic.

Mine! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But hopefully worth a little more than £20K.

Joking aside, Centurion 32, a good boat similar to a Contessa 32 but beamier so more space inside.

Another for the list.

Regards,
Jeff.

Halmatic 30 is an excellent sea boat and just about in the target budget. Contessa 32 well proven but might bust the price range unless needing TLC. Also like Centurion 32 and Nic 32 as suggested by others.

Another vote for the Halmatic 30 - we took my old 30 (Dipper -anyone seen her lately?) to the Azores and back and found her an excellent and reassuring boat for the job. However, check whether the inner shouds mountings have been beefed up - the original had a fairly inadequate metal plate embedded in the deck lay-up. If there is any sign of cracking round this, an upgrade is needed.
