Re: Whale wrecks family\'s sailing trip

We had a holiday out there earlier this year. The charter company warned us about the jellyfish, but didn't mention getting humped by low flying whales.

I loved the bit on this morning's radio news where they described the incident, finishing by saying the whale let out a strange moan, and slid back into the water.

I supect the moan was actually Aussie whalespeak for "Oh sh*t, it's a yacht, not a Sheila. I really must get to the opticians before next mating season."

No, apparently the whale left a dreadful mess on deck, so probably shagging a charter boat is very satisfying, if that's what it was doing. Seems a weird mating ritual to find another whale and leap out of the water and kerump on top of it, a bit forward. Anyway, I am expecting a few more instances of this lunatic whale raping charter boats. Careful antifouling will probably be needed, perhaps using another colour to paint in some male whale genitalia. Mind you we don't know if the whale was male or female - perhaps it was male and the boat had inadvertently strayed into the marine equivalent of hampstead heath?

It would've been better if the interviewer had come back with better responses to the skippers explanation that they couldn't start the engine with all the ropes in the water, and had no VHF. "Couldn't you have used goggles and a snorkle to check or clear the propellor?" or "Which charter company sends you out with no VHF?" or "Didn't you take your own mobile VHF just in case?" and so on.
