Whale Angled Fresh water pump

I need to service my VERY old heads sink pump. I have the service kit (SK0103) and have removed the pump. I don't know how to remove either the base or the distance collar, at least one of which I need to got out if I'm to remove the plunger. Anyone have any experience of this pump? The flipper won't fit in the space available.

Thank you! It's certainly more than I found after trolling through four pages of google search. Of course it wasn't that easy, the pump is nearly 50 years old. I may have to apply some heat, but at least i know what;s supposed to happen.
