given the lousy weather, we might look to stop over rather than head straight for Brixham over the w/end. Who knows whether we get to Falmouth or not...
Anyway, any locals about who can advise on Weymouth with their local knowledge !

not a local, but a visitor.

Don't go into the fleshpot that is the 3 storey building by the right hand side of the bridge, green coloured place, as you looki nto the marina.

One of my favorite ports of call. Excellent shelter, Strong NE excepted, when a bit of surge works its way in.

The combination of a proper working harbour and a seaside resort means always somthing going on, vast choice of eateries from the v. cheap to the v. expensive. Walk along the south coast's finest sandy beach, complete with sand sculpture and a wonderfully violent Punch and Judy show.

Go and enjoy.

I like Weymouth too.

You can use the town quay which as said may this time of year involve a raft. Or go to the marina the other side of the bridge - not any visitors berths I think but the staff will sort you out if you book a berth. Either way you are in town and a short walk to anywhere really. Some good eating houses and more fish & chip shops than you can shake a stick at. Think if I recall correctly good cheap fuel too as provides to fishing fleet.

I'd choose the marina over the town quay every time. We went there several times last summer and never had a problem getting a berth.

Perrys restaurant is nice, and there's an excellent curry place just beyond the marina.

Cheers

Fuel is slightly more expensive now than Lymington, certainly if you're taking a reasonable amount. Can't beat the convenience of having the fuel bowser come to you whilst rafted on the quay though.

One of my favorites, lymington as well always go up to the quay in lym but moor on the floating pontoon in the river on the east side no one bothers you there, even got a free night last year.

Weymouth absolutely great for shelter, low tidal range, shops, bar, restaurants etc, nice on up the hill just out of the town quay walk towards the fort on the port side of the entrance think its called the nothe but not sure, book if you can.

If your going in the town take plenty of rope, if more than 4th boat out, diesel by road tanker or pump near lifeboat station, plenty to do beach great, go to far end of beach if going in dinghy nice and quiet.
Buses to portland if weathers not good and you need a ride out, cinema and plenty of shops, have a good one.

When we boated in the E Channel, we loved Weymouth. We always berthed on the town quay rather than the soulless marina. OK, the great unwashed gawp at you but the harbour has a convivial atmosphere and rafting up is all part of the fun. Everything is there on your doorstep in terms of pubs restaurants and shops and it's great for kids with a sandy safe beach and amusements
If adrianb is referring to the large pub by the bridge, yup, keep out unless you fancy a punch up. We rolled up in Weymouth one day by boat and saw the place surrounded by police. Some poor bloke had just been killed in a fight there. Hope that does'nt put you off!
