Should we get some late summer weather this September, I'm hoping to launch my sailfish 18 (trailer launch) from the public slipway on the East side of the marina in Weymouth. I've never used the slipway before, but from what I've seen and read it should be suitable. However, does anyone have any experience of leaving the car and trailer in the area overnight?

I can see on the harbour authorities website that there is a trailer park next to the slipway. Has anyone used it and left the trailer overnight? And what are the options for leaving the car overnight?

Thanks

I've not launched a boat on a slipway for ages (used to have a 25' trailerable). That said I know the location of the slip and I would be happy to launch on it. Remember that it is above the lifting bridge so with the mast up you will be limited to bridge times. The car park says trailers only. There are car parks local to the slip and Weymouth now has free overnight parking after 6pm. I think you can pre-pay for the following day as well.
An alternative is to go out to Portland and use the WPNSA slips. Does not have the atmosphere of Weymouth but has free parking and generally the harbour provides sheltered sailing if the Channel has kicked up a bit.

Thanks Peter

It's useful to get your local knowledge. I've seen the slipway courtesy of Google street-view, but that's no substitute for having seen it first hand.

Yes you can leave your trailer but not your car. I did it some 10 years ago no real problems at all if you notify the harbour office.
The only snag is you may get your trailer blocked in by other trailers if it is busy.
