We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

Noticed the liferaft was missing from it's cradle on the aft coach roof, and saw that the padlock was intact, so assumed that the yard boys had removed it for safe keeping while they erected the mast. Unusual, but, well, they are careful. Quite often.

Had to wait until yesterday to ask them. But no, they hadn't touched it.

Seemingly somebody had forced the stainless steel strap link apart and removed the thing from the stern cradle. Telephoned the police to get a crime number for insurance purposes and the assurance that they will take no further action.

Can understand in a way.

''Yes Madam, and when was this item taken from your boat?''

'Some time in the last week. But it could have been in the last 2 weeks 'cause we have been busy''

So....... Pantaenius will get a call; and we will loose our NCB for this year.

There have been no thefts from Dell Quay boat yard for at least 4 years, and we were in our usual place, backing on to the public footpath along the edge of the creek with our ladder safely tied in place......

Oh well. one lives and learns /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I never thought I would say this, but how I long to be back in Haslar

Re: liferaft pinched.

Sorry to hear your news. Interestingly the local Boat Jumble (Hunston) is this coming weekend, you may be able to pick up a remarkably similar LR going cheap.
I chose a valaise which lives in a locker to minimise temptation for these scroats which in hindsight you may wish to consider for your replacement kit.
PS if you have the serial number you could share with fellow forumites - more likely to be recovered and scroats caught.

Condolences!
Some low life nicked our tender and outboard so know how you feel. the local police are now implementing a boat watch scheme, might be worth having a word with your local bobby and other owners to see if such a scheme could be set up.

Good luck

If you ever want to try your theif proof devises just moore or take a yard place next to a French boat being built/readied for a round the world trip!!!I had my old sailor radio stolen along with lots of other stuff which i could remove becose i couldent get it out,

Try the boat jumbels and second hand boat stuff shops, And not just nearby,i found lots of stolen stuff in a shop in Bandol rather than Toulon or Antibes i also found my Blakes oval toilet on the boat of the German that time that had taken the goods to that shop!

I dont know how he manage to leave so very fast as he did by the time, less than an hour later,id told everyone what id found blocked the goods at the shop hed left and left that part of the coast.

Reminds me of the time we had all our camping and climbing gear stolen in Marseille. Helpful Marseille police suggested we go the the Sunday morning flea market, and buy our stuff back!!

The Muslims have a good method of stopping theft...or deterring it in others. "Hands Off" has a whole different meaning in Iran.

Dont you get a protected NCB for 2 claims or something?

I'm sure when I told them I had 1 years previous NCB with Mardon they told me that I would get some protected NCB.

Worth a call to check.

Interesting that you think Gosport has fewer thieving SOBs than Chichester.................

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

What's all this about Haslar? I have just booked a berth there for the 2007 season. Security looked pretty good in the marina to me. Anyway, statistics are pretty much bullship anyway - try telling someone who has just been mugged that he is living in the least likely area of England to get mugged! Liferafts and outboards are pretty easy meat though aren't they?

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

Just about to leave Haslar. Nothing to do with security, which I have always felt to be comparatively good. Also very friendly and helpful staff and good location. Just too expensive for me ( and it's one of the more competetive ones ! )

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

Hate to say it, but the yard you are in does have a certain 'reputation' locally. Its the first place we look when gear goes missing from the area - sometimes succesfully!

I had a boat in mud berth there some years ago, and set up an anchor well out to pull her off when the time came. I left it to low tide to retrieve it - too late!

Hi Becky,
Sorry to hear the news - hope the Ins claim goes thru, but it is really is hassle you don't need. Had the Moody out the w/end before last F6-7, gusting 8, christened the lee rail and she sailed like a train. Very pleased so far.

Sorry to hear that! It really hacks me off when scumbags think it their right to take what isn't theirs. My brand new Tohatsu went walkies this winter....stolen from a steel storage box that was set in cement. Broke the blimmin' hinges off they did! After they had tried the dual padlocks that wouldn't budge!

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

Really sorry Becky but Never Never leave a ladder tied to the boat when your not there.
its sort of saying Y not take a look o/b
it happens in our marine the staff leave ladders tied, i have told them never to do that with my boat, my previous boat was being worked on for the new owner the main sheet tackle was stolen

If it's any consolation, my Tohatsu, which was pinched in Walton Backwaters, was recovered by Police nearly a year later. I don't know how!

Re: We\'ve had our liferaft pinched. Oh how I long to be back in Haslar

They found it after a week. They just gave it back to you when they didn't want it any more.
