G’day Martin (ToMo).
I know exactly what you are going through and you are to be congratulated for your tireless efforts to date, however, I’m sure you will find the perfect craft.
Here in Oz, my Son and I have been looking at a number of boats; like you, he plans to live aboard. We started with monohull powerboats from 33 to 45 feet. Then decided power-cats might be a better way to go, less length but more space and much better stability at rest. Now we are looking into sailing cats 33 to 40 foot with twin diesels.
By the way, the Brokers here are very good (well all the one’s I have contacted to date). One thing I have noticed is that with so many boats on the market, around 6,000 of them, some are under priced for a quick sale and worth investigating. Also have a talk to a friendly marine surveyor; they can often point you towards a good buy before it hits the market.
Good luck with your search.
