Obviously too much turkey (hence manic early Boxing Day posting!). Can anyone tell me how to calculate (or does anyone know by heart) the wetted area of a Rival 32. I am trying to work out how much antifouling to buy..!

Merry Christmas to all here.

Re: WETTED AREA OF HULL - RIVAL 32

Hi Alisdair, can't help you I'm afraid but I am sure someone will. I have just enjoyed looking at your website and reading some of the expeds on the BKYC website link. I hadn't realised that the British Army were so involved in sailing in Germany! A couple of years ago I was moored alongside in Sonderborg when a Comfortina came alongside me with nine of your chaps onboard. I have to say initially I was full of dred at the thought of eighteen heavy boots stomping on my decks at three in the morning. It didn't happen. In fact, I had a lot of traffic over my boat as four other boats rafted up! In the morning the guys unbelievably washed my deck clean of 'all' footmarks. I was very impressed. More so because as an ex British Submariner I had to accept that perhaps after all, there is no 'Senior' service. I hope to bump into some of your boats this year (it goes without saying, not literally!). Regards.

Thanks all - I reckon based on the International website, the 32 is somwhere between an B & C hullform (ie, longer fin). 2.5 l seems not much, as my previous boat (Fox Terrier 22) used to take 2 litres for 2 coats. However,, overall this is good news, as I had thought it would be a lot more.

Swanny, thanks for the kind compliments about the BKYC. Service skippers, both at BKYC and JSASTC usually try really hard to inculcate the correct etiquette - glad it worked on this occasion.

Alisdair

We calculate area by LWL x (beam + draft) x factor based on keel shape. Long fin factor would be .65 or .7
Without knowing the exact dimensions I would say about 2.5L per coat. Important to put it on at the right thickness. Brushing out to make it go further is a false economy

Had an R32 for many years, never got worked up or bored enough to work it out to that degree, if I had to much, it came in handy next year, have a better, less boring New Year, Best Wishes, Bill.
