Our 3 year old wetline dinghy's name trim on the sides and the bow have gone really sticky this year. Must be UV degradation I guess.

Any tips on how to remove the sticky layer?

When the airdeck on my Quicksilver went sticky after five years I contacted the suppliers and it was replaced under guarantee. The hull tubes remain unsticky, now 10 years in Mediterranean sunshine, so clearly not affected by UV. Many airdecks have gone the same way, clear indication of defective material.

It appears parts of yours may be defective and the manufacturer should sort it out.

I have the same dinghy but it doesn't have any "side" nameplates, only a bow one. This nameplate is however covered by a reflective car numberplae background with the T/T....... on it so never gets direct (Med.) sunlight. I also stow it down below in the dark in winter and in summer it is inverted on the foredeck under a proprietory cover.

The main problem with mine is that it leaks water in somewhere around the wooden transom so wet feet are the norm. What a pity that Avon went out of the tender business. I guess I will have to replace this with a Zodiac when it's shot just to get a dinghy of ANY quality.

Thanks Steve and vyv, The tubes/airdeck are not affected just the badges on the sides and bow... The blue "W 265".. Other than the sticky badges it is a very good dinghy in particular the high volume tubes, can't remember the last time I had to top it up with air.

Wow! Doesn't that dinghy stowing position act like a sail and attempt to round you up?
