I am in the process of kitting the wife and I out with heavy weather gear. Its part of the gear list for our world cruise. Does anyone have any feelings about whats on the market with respect to Henri Lloyd/Musto/Gill.

Any comments appreciated.

Last year switched from Musto to Henri Lloyd Offshore Gortex, very pleased with them seem to keep me much drier than my Mustos. But then my Mustos were about 10 years old and only the MPX version.

Really like the collar and hood of the HL's at first I thought the collar was bit large but then last year when buckets of wet stuff started coming over the bow the collar and hood came into their own, after an hour of taking bucket loads of water over my head I was still dry inside, enough said.

Had slight problem with the tape over seams inside at my shoulders fraying. Jacket was sent back under warranty and returned a week later with the tape replaced. Very good service I thought.

I just got a new set of gear, and after some looking around went for the Gill Key West range. I have had both Musto and Henry Lloyd in the past, and all of them have done the job. I felt that with Musto and Henry Lloyd that a lot of my hard earned cash would be going on the brand rather than the product, and some of the 'Ocean' type ranges are perhaps a little over-engineered for normal use.

Remember that they will probably get very little use on your trip.

We looked at Henri Lloyd and Musto. Musto won on better fit, style and we didn't think any other manufacturer matched them. MPX Offshore, high collar- brilliant! These people are good to deal with.

HPX for deep sea sailing I think - it's heavier and make sure you get all the layers too. Talk to the above and they have good advice. BOL

I bought a set of JAG gear a couple of seasons ago and I'm well pleased with them.

Bought my Dubarry boots from marinescene and was also well pleased with the price & service.

I wear a Henry Lloyd suit I bought 12 years ago... not sure if it was offshore or ocean, but you can still throw a cup of coffee at it and it rolls off in droplets, and I cant see anything getting in when it's all done up.

never worn Musto

Bought Janet a Gill Key West jacket last year, and it certainly looks up to the job, although it's not been worn in anger yet.

I'm a musto fan - got MPX offshore - very happy with the quality. I have had cheap sets before and worn through them in a couple of races - the musto has really lasted.

Your swmbo might find the legs too short on both Musto and HL, especially Musto (jackets and trousers all very wide and short), unless she buys the womans version and only some of the range are made in womans versions. They seem to assume that the bigger your girth the taller you are, so if you have a smaller girth (swmbos tend to!) but long legs, they are all hopeless in small sizes. Not only that but woman have longer legs in relation to their overall height than men (yes OK bigger bums). HL (maybe Musto too) will add some leg length if necessary and do a very neat job indeed. Can't recall what I paid (maybe £30) to have HL add 12 cms to the legs of mine, but well worth it to stop them riding above my boots.
