Now that summer's gone, it's time to think about wintering the boat for the first time. I have received mixed advice as to whether a low output heater or a dehumidifier is best to keep the cabin damp and mildew free.

What's the consensus of the many wise men and women on the forum?

If you can use it all years regularly you can get away with a low watt heater, but will have to remove anything that could get damp and open all cupboard and doors,

OR
put low watt heater and dehumidifier on on board and open all door and cupboards, should be able to leave stuff on board then.

But summer is still here at mo. just hiding a bit so we appreciate it more when it shows itself.

PS your depressing me now!!!!

Ignore ljs, he likes damp and mildewy boats. I think he was a garden slug in a previous life. A low power heater and a dehumidifier on a timer to operate 1-2 hours a day ('coz they're expensive to run 24/7) will keep your interior nice and dry.
Is this some kind of a record? It's still July and we're already getting questions about winterising

Both, and make sure you have some ventilation,be aware that over use of dehumidifier can do peculiar things to woodwork, there is a magic figure of humidity below which you should not go but that will have to be provided by one more knowledgeable than me (there are lots, if not most on the forum).

Slug!!!!

If I was a slug then you must have been a Caterpillar which failed to turn into a butterfly. You're probably still in your warm, dry cocoon awaiting decent Spanish weather so you can emerge and fly away. Whimp!

Spanish weather

That must be the temp in the sun, see here, still pretty warm though, but probably cos you're leaving there's a heatwave forecast here for the next few weeks.

Have a good holiday and may your ssstutter clear up.
