I managed to get my boots wet, you know the nice Dubarry ones, where the water started seeping through the leather. Has anybody else had this problem? Should I send 'em back, they're only 2 years old, treat 'em with something or put up with it?

Expensive tastes

Don't have that problem. a) have a dry boat, only need boots in heavy rain, not worn once this year b) have £20 Aigle rubber boots that don't leak

You could try treating them with good old Dubbin or Mars Oil (camping shops usually have this).

Happy Christmas & a storm free New Year!

I looked at the Dubarrys and have to say wasn't overly impressed. They look great, mind.

I bought some good lined boots in Norway a couple of weeks back. I've used these before (the last ones gave in after 10 years abuse). They are very warm and waterproof and cost me the princely sum of 250 Kroner (20 quid). They won't win any fashion prizes though!

Regards
Tom

All my shoes/boots are Dubarry's for no other reason than the wifes family live about 20 mins from the factiory in Ballalinsloe. I've got a pair of them boots. All I do with mine is bang on a layer of dubbin on the leather bits and the suede bits get a quick coat of something I got from the factory. Dunno what it is but I presume that its used for proofing them up. The wifes buggering off to Ireland, d'you want some?

True Dubarry story

I've got a buddy in Ireland who was buying a pair of Dubarry deck shoes from a shoe shop, not a swindlery.

He was given a discount because they were not a pair. One had a red tab on the aft quarter, the other a green. The shop assistant was sure that they should match.

Rather than using dubbin, I would recommend the use of Renapur http://www.renapur.com/balsam.htm. I use this all the time on my bike boots and gloves and it is excellent. A lot less fuss or mess than either dubbin or mars oil. (Although I do use mars oil about once a year as well - cause it is a little better) A lot of bikers use it for their leathers, and you can even use it to renovate the leather sofa at home.

Dubarry boots

The ones I got, when they first came out 10 years ago were easily the best - but I'd still swear by them.

A seepage into the boot is almost always due to one of the seams having come undone.

More usual failure mode is for the Gore-Tex interior everting.

I use a mini sailbatten down the heel when I'm taking them off to prevent this.

If the boots have started to leak after only 2 seasons, I'd give them a ring in Galway, I've always found them helpful.
