Wet Boat

Hi

I have a wet hull problem, the boat is a 1970's GRP, unusually she has a wet hull but no osmosis. My Surveyor says he has not seen a substrate like this before.

She was gel peeled up to the water line 8 months ago, she has been washed and grit blasted, but she is not drying, the readings are almost as high now as the first time the meter readings were taken.

Also the high reading are patchy, an area is very low and the next high, this applies above and below the water line.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

If there is no osmosis wherein lies the problem? I had my 1975 hull slurry blasted some years ago, gelshielded, and copper-botted. Afterwards a friendly surveyor, out of interest, ran his moisture meter over the hull and said it still indicated a high moisture content; but since the layup is over 1" thick and there was no osmosis, there was nothing to worry about.

What is the moisture reading and on what meter?

Thank you for sharing your ideas, and to answer Rogers questions, she is a early Senior, believed to be early 1970's, may be late 1960's.

The meter readings vary, for example on the actual bottom of the hull and the sides below the water line mark it can range from a very low 1, further 3-4 inches along the meter readings range anything from 5-9. Also in some areas of the top sides the readings are between 4-8, she was peeled below the waterline, it was not considered necessary to peel the top sides.

The meter was a Tramex
