According to the Observer last Sunday, PWC - or wet bikes - discharge up to one-third of their fuel load into the sea.

That's pollution to me 'n thee, and I recall that most harbours I've visited recently have Regulations forbidding just that. Indeed, some forumites have been prosecuted/fine for small diesel spillages, I seem to remember.

So, I think we now have a chance to rid ourselves substantially of these dangerous and poisonous nuisances. Let us each simply complain in writing to every harbourmaster, whose Rules forbid pollution, about the wet bikes he permits to pollute his waters. If he does nothing, complain in writing to the Council/Harbour Trust/controlling authority - copy to the local newspaper.

I'm not in the least tolerant of 'em......

Who else is in?

One rule for . . .

Just remember that all those two stroke outboards discharge a lot of unburnt fuel/oil with the exhaust. So will they get banned as well?

The short answer is yes. It won't be long before you can no longer buy 2-stroke outboards. The EU 2006 directive will ban the sale of new 2-strokes for recreational use.

Fear not!!!!

PWC are here to stay, God bless em!

Seriously though quality PWC from say SEADOO dont use those nasty old 2 stroke engines anymore. These days your more likely to see a supercharged four-stroke, three-cylinder Rotax SOHC.

See here for examples.

2 strokes are not being banned at all. New emmision regulations mean that most current 2 strokes will not comply, and will be withdrawn from sale rather than the manufacturers investing money in getting them cleaner. Some two strokes, such as Evinrude's E-Tec, will comply and will continue to be sold.

nope - huge differences for 2 strokes which result in both improved fuel efficiency and lower emmissions.

take Mercury OB development

carbs...........e.fuel injection gave better starting and more power capability (for given CC) but no improvement in fuel economy or emmissions.......DFI (Optimax in their case) gives 35% improvement on fuel efficiency and emmissions down to required limits.
EFI still injects to manifold whilst DFI meters fuel directly to cylinder I believe.
