Western Solent Thunderstorms !

2nd May Bankholiday, 2nd Singaporean type thunderstorm. Wind 12kts to 65kts (about 10s), then back to 18kts, then 12kts. All in the space of about 3mins !!

Rarely See that kind of thing in the UK. And yes, your warning was was spot on :encouragement:

What time was this? Just looking at the CAPE values in a grib, apparently above 1000J/Kg and thunderstorms are likely.

Cursor is actually over the solent though you can't see it.

That’s interesting. The storm was out over the Channel from about 9:15, then over the Yarmouth-end of the Solent around 9:55. Far too many flashes to gauge distance by sound, but it appeared to be mainly sheet lightening as not that many forks. Hard to see the flashes because of the driving rain; the wind instruments read 65kts for about 30s, but I wondered if they were influenced by the electro magnetism? Certainly 45kts plus. Quite wild really for a short moment.

Guessing it was motoring on your return. Winds were great Sat eve, but the thunderstorms were too much.

I live near the western solent & apart from a few desolute showers, am wondering when all this promised rain is going to arrive.
