Hi - I am facing a bit of a conundrum in choosing between a Westerly Konsort or a Sadler 29, both twin-keelers. I understand that the Sadler is considered a better sailer, but the accommodation on both (we have viewed some) are similar.

This is the first yacht my wife and I have bought; she is a novice, I am more experienced. We may be based on the East Coast (Crouch/Deben) area. No long trips planned in the near future and definitely no racing.

Any thoughts (I have looked through other threads as well - but if I've missed any, please point them out to me.) (Also, cross posted to Scuttlebut)

Thanks,

Andy

Think you need to give more of a steer.

I would go for the Sadler, not because I dislike Westerlys but because I value the the internal moulding/foam construction as it does make it allot quieter and warmer than a single skin. You will find lockers slightly smaller. Tracing leaks is a right ar**.

Disclaimer - we own a Starlight 35 that has a similar method of construction.

Have you sailed on either? You can learn allot in a short time on board. Somethings will appeal, others not, and allot of that is personal choice. So, I suggest a test sail (or charter/borrow/beg/steal).

Have fun - both are good choices.

years back i used to share duty- free run weekenders turn and turn about to France on my then Liz 30 with another club member with a konsort( leave Poole Friday overnight return from Cherbourg Sunday daytime) . The konsort was a bilge keel version and a very able sailer although the occasional thump when a wave went twixt the keels could wake you up if sleeping in the starboard quarter berth. That Konsort was also a thorn in our side when club racing as unless there was a decent upwind leg or two, it was hard to beat on handicap, even through the water on a windy day if off the wind. It motored well and was a very stiff boat, not needing to be reefed too early. That Konsort had a very good BUkh 20 engine too for when the wind vanished.

Having sailed extensively on both, my choice for you and your wife would be the Konsort. More room in accomidation wide side decks, (the Sadler has awful narrow sloping side decks) much more wife friendly
