Westerly Konsort fuel filler

Those who know the Konsort will be aware that the fuel filler is in the centre of the cockpit sole.

It is inconvenient when standing in the cockpit and usually leads to diesel in the cockpit, no matter how careful one tries to be when filling.

Has anyone ever found an alternative, eg moving the filler to the starboard quarter? A quick look suggests that there just isn't enough room between the sole and the top of the fuel tank (which is why Westerly probably did it that way in the first place).

However, somebody might have had a better idea?

To be honest, I thought they were all in the same place as mine is - aft of the mainsheet traveller. I know that a friends Fulmar is in the cockpit sole, but thought all Konsorts were where mine is.

My filler is about a third of the way from and between the rudder and the starboard side of the cockpit coaming. The tank has the filler in the aft side filling to the bottom of the tank. This way it can be dipped from the top with about a three ft dipstick.

As an aside, I always had fuel spillage from the breather that is situated on the inboard side of the starboard cockpit coaming. To prevent spillage from foaming filling fuel, I fitted one of the Racor Fuel/Air Separators from WestMarine - $51.99, Model 437301. It works a treat.

Contact Brian Oakes at www.westerly-spares.co.uk for further info on the fuel tank filler position.

regards,
Philip
