Has anybody found a glue that works on Westerly foam backed headlining? The usual problem, mines falling down. I was thinking of spray carpet adhesive has anybody tried this. Thanks for any advice given. Jim
I have used Copydex on my headlining as a 'temporary' measure before I replace the whole lot. The sagging bits have stayed up for two seasons so far! I believe you can get this in a spray can.
I tried using a tin of contact adhesive, but it was difficult to spread it on in the confined space of my small boat. A spray can of the stuff from Homebase was much easier to apply, but it didn't go very far. I'll need another one or two to finish the job. Make sure you open all the hatches as the glue stinks. I hope this helps.
Often the reason for sagging is breakdown of the foam backing not failure of the adhesive. If you try to restick it the foam may well collapse some more and you are back to square one. We found with our 19 year old Westerly that the only way, without replacing the whole lining, is to rub off the old foam backing and hoover up the mess and then stick back as described above. The main problem with this approach is that the foam tends to disguise irregularities and without it the effect is not quite so good. We have a programme of phased, but complete, replacement.
Hawke House Marine (Fareham Hants) are THE people to contact. I have dealt with them for material, cushions and their help and service has been excellent. I have an Itchen Ferry but they are tend to specialise in Westerley interiors. I do not have their number as I am in the middle of the North Sea! Try enquiries - Fareham.
The lining in my Centaur had the droop. Fixed it easily with 25 x 5 mm hardwood (Ramin)strips from a DIY store. Measure carefully & spring between window frames, space @ about 600mm & secure with brass screws 4mm x 10mm. Much easier & quicker!
