Westerly Griffon mk2 - internal dimensions

I am considering buying either a Westerly Griffon mk2 or a Moody 27. The problem with the Moody is that the standing headroom is not great for my 5'11" and I am told that the births are only 6'2".
I understand that the Westerly has 6' headroom but I cannot find the length of the births. Can anyone help ?
 
I have a Griffon, mk1 so not quite as nice but I believe the size and basic layout are the same.

If you're 5'11" you will be fine standing in the middle strip of the main cabin and getting a little close elsewhere. But, honestly, it feels pretty good headroom-wise for the size of boat. If it were taller it'd look odd and start suffering a lot of windage.

Berths are rather varied. Even if they were planned to a consistent length (no idea) they all feel quite different in practice. Personally I think the v berth is a bit short to stretch out in, and I am not as tall as you. The main cabin bed is a decent size and I suspect you will be fine, the narrow one opposite (with lee cloth) may seem a bit short but at least on the mkI you can take a cushion out and stick your feet in the coat locker if you didn't already put soggy coats in there. This feels to me like an option for hardy mariners keeping their boots on on a bad night, rather than for one's beloved partner or honoured guest in a pleasant anchorage. The quarter berth feels pretty long but is a bit of a last resort. So if you are tall and need to sleep in a straight line, you're fine, if you bag the main bed. I like curling up in the V. I think Westerly were being optimistic claiming this as a six berth boat; read it as "you have choices about where to stow the kids" rather than "six huge guys will do fine". I've not tried six adults aboard but wouldn't recommend it unless they are all small and very friendly.

We sleep quite comfortably in the V berth (with the infill in place) in my Leisure 23SL. I can also stand fairly comfortably in the main part which has 5'10 1/2" headroom. This explains why I didn't think about these issues when looking for a 26 or 27 ft boat.

I will measure the length of the V berth in my boat to get an idea of what size works me.
 
I cannot measure it until the weekend but I am pretty sure the Griffon headroom is a bit larger than your Leisure 23SL so would be likely to feel like an improvement. The Griffon main cabin seems quite spacious to me, given it's not a huge boat, though I think the tradeoff is they trimmed the loo and V as far as they dared to make plenty of room in the main. The doorway through to the loo and V berth is low and needs watching out for. Could do with padding around the top.

The thought occurs that much of what I say about different bits being different sizes and it all coming out pretty good really, may well be true of the Moody as well - but I've never been on one to compare. The internal layout, though, looks pretty different and slightly more dimension-critical - you're more likely to be sleeping with head AND foot pointing to something immovable, by the looks of it.
 
The information I have is that the headroom in the Griffon 2 is 6 ft so no problem. It is the length of the berths, particularly in the
fore cabin that is of most concern.
A lot of boats, including mine, have a board (or insert) in between the V which can increase the useable length of the berth by a foot or so. I don't know whether the griffon has this.
 
My Griffon has a small board (and matching cushion) that fills in the v but I'm not sure if it is original. But it's just between the arms of the v (and there is not really room to make it longer, unless I misremember) so it adds quite a lot of comfort but no extra length. I think it's longer lying along an arm of the v than in the middle (and Pythagoras agrees with me!). If the infill board could stick out it would be a lot more valuable... hmm... now I'll be measuring not just for you, but for me too!
 
V berth is six foot five along the sides but only six nought straight up and down the middle (with the board in) so now I am surprised . I can't see room for a different board shape that would improve it much, there's just not space. Main (pull out "double") berth is six foot three, but one person gets to be a bit careful about the folded table... I've seen a Griffon II with a fixed table arrangement that may be better. However with nobody in the quarterberth, the person on the port side gets the rest of the bench and can really stretch.

Headroom is 6' across most of the middle of the main cabin, but there is a slight taper so it's only 5' 11" down the bow end.

Infill is definitely original.
My MK1 has one.
I'm 5'11 and can sleep happily in either v berth up front.
Port site main cabin is the best, but I can sleep quite happily in the std berth with me feet in the trotter box... it even has its own cushion...

Qtr berth is massive, but a bit of a pain if you need to get up for a pee in the night. It mostly gets used for bags and gear. And somewhere to stuff sleeping bags etc during the day

My 6'3 son is also happy in the main cabin, but not so keen on the v berth...
