should the keel on my W Corsair be connected to the engine earth, I ask this because every year on my lift out for antifoul etc, over the years no matter how much sandblasting
and many coats of primer there are always rust spots coming out through the primercon. Three years ago I attached an earth from a Keel bolt and the main engine earth, which is connected to my Hull anode, all the rust spots have stopped coming through and the primer is still intact. Is connecting the keel to engine earth doing harm elsewhere ?

I am aware that it was not causing rust but there must have been some reaction there to cause the primer to lift. But after I connected the keel to the earth there is definitely no primer lifting, which is great as long as it is not creating another problem.

I can't back it up with scientific evidence but having discussions over many years with other owners in yards, it appears bonded keels suffer more from rust problems. Why connect anything which is electrically isolated (and not a mixture of metals) to something which isn't?
