Hi All Westerly Owners (especially Allen at CYC)
While doing some non-rigging internal work I have found that
the nuts below the Main "Lower" Chainplate (one side so far)
are cracking (some falling apart at the touch of a spanner)
They appear to be 3/8" Whitworth (16 TPI) but 0.71" across
the flats (oversize presumably to take the compression loading)
Checking the other side on Monday (wood butchery required!)
Asking Trafalgar Yachts and XW Rigging if they know of a supply
source.
Intend informing WOA and Yahoo Westerly Forum when investigation
completed.
My home phone is 01633 893429 and mobile 07801 945070.

Westerly Nuts

Hi All Westerly Nuts
After further checks (on the U-bolt ends) the nuts required
are 7/16" Whitworth (14 TPI). To get to them all you need to
do is unscrew the locker fascia and jiggle it down 3 or 4 inches.
I got 8 for £1 at Phoenix Engineering, in the vincinity of
Clarence Bridge/Clarence Terrace in Cardiff.

Well spotted Pigpen a disaster may have been averted..Any idea what has caused the problem?

They have done a lot of 'working' over the last 32 years.
The other side had similar corrosion but no apparent cracks.
All the studs appear OK.
None of the nuts had any markings unlike their replacements which
are marked "318". I wonder if they were made up from a long hex
bar of (dare I say) sub-standard material. There's stainless and there's
stainless!
