Hi there
These were very solid boats and I am not aware of any stress cracking problems round the keels. I read a commentry by the designer (D.A.Raynor I think) who descried how he had built massive strength into the keels, keel bolts and stubs to withstand a hard impact under way. From a visual inspection the you will see that the keels are not as splayed out as a Pageant and therefore under less lateral stress.
Basically they were built like the proverbial "brick s*it house".
In-boards are much better and whilst a 14 h.p. is top end it is no worse than 23 horses in a Centaur.
The shoal draft makes them a go-anywhere propostion.

I concur with seaestas comments. My 21 is really solidly built and was one of the last made. The previous owner had the keels 'beefed-up' as a precaution to stress problems, although this may have been just a 'belt&braces' attitude. The original W21 'Club' was fitted with an optional Petter Mini 6 diesel. You will enjoy a very safe/stiff small cruiser with 5'9 headroom and an uncluttered cabin with an amazing amount of storage space. handles beautifully. You will not regret buying one.

Unfortunately, no. But my Mecury 6 o/b is adequate for most occasions.

I dont have any experience of small Westerlies but even though the Broker was a bit out of order describing an 11 year old motor as recent It could still be a good engine . Most boat engines do very few hours / year so if it looks clean and runs sweetly 11 years old may not be a problem.

I had a 15 hp diesel in a 24 ft Hurley once and it was not overpowered. Hull speed could be achieved with about 3/4 of the maximum revs giving a reserve of power if needed.

The prop will create a bit of extra drag but it will be not noticeable compared to the prop on a smaller engine. There will be times when you are glad of the extra power.
