A friend of mine has been informed the 25yr old Bukh may have reached the end of it's economic life, and may well need replacing.A 25hp bukh will fit easily but will be the most expensive option.Has anyone any ideas on alternatives especially with regard to the orientation ie bearers, alignment, wiring etc.He thinks the extra work will outweigh the cost. Any views would be appreciated.

I've not dont this particular job, but I wouldnt have thought it very difficult to install a modern diesel in place of the Bukh. The difference in alignment can be dealt with by the use of spacers which can be made to fit. Needs to check on the exhaust run because that can be difficult if the new engine has the exhaust on the opther side. Wouldnt worry about the electrics.

It would be simplest to fit the Bukh and they can be stripped down and re-built. May well be the cheapest option if he intends too pay someone to do it, but it should not be a difficult diy. Other club members will always help.
