Bumped into Spyro earlier today on the hard at Ardrossan. Got me wondering if anyone else fancies meeting up for few evening drinks sometime. As our boats and homes are scattered over a wide area, I was wondering whether meeting up in Glasgow might be a reasonable proposition - reasonable public transport links to the airts and pairts.

The Horseshoe Bar in Drury Street is my favoured watering hole when visiting that great city, although I see in the Herald that their pies are under some sort of threat of extinction.

Any views?

I'd be up for it. For those that don't recognise the Horseshoe.....

Tom, I was thinking more around early/mid February to give people time to make arrangements, but I'd be delighted to meet up with you on Tuesday evening. So, yes, Tuesday's fine for me, anyone else?

Looking further ahead how does the first or second week of February sound? And is there any preference for an evening - IIRC Fridays in the Horseshoe tend to be busier than other evenings, though usually pretty entertaining. I can be flexible but others may have distinct preferences.......... Any views?

EDIT: apologies to both Daves - I didn't see your responses before posting the above. Anyway, I can go with the flow as it were.

This Tuesday would be fine for me. (A sort of "practice" night?)

You're right about Friday nights! I was last in the Horseshoe the Friday before Christmas (particularly bad with all the office does, of course) and I couldn't even see the bar, let alone get near it...

February: I'm in Morocco until the 11th, then most dates are OK for me except 14 & 15.

You can't beat the "Counting House" a great building, lovely outlook but mainly some good real ales all at £1.69 pint...!!! In there for lunch today, 2 meals and 2 pints £7.98 I would never go elsewhere in Glasgow.....food for thought, count me in if not at work.

Paul.

Practice session: West of Scotland pre-season Scuttlebutt drink

Spoke to Little Ship this morning, so suggest we meet up at about 1800-1830ish on Tuesday (23rd Jan). Re the bar, CH is a good suggestion, but let's stick with the Horseshoe for this occasion as Little Ship is a visitor and a visit to a Wetherspoon pub may not have the unique life enhancing experience as the highly acclaimed Horseshoe Bar, and, errrmm, its internationally renowned pies.

I would, Donald, you know I would, but I just can't. Maybe I'll skip the practice and hang on for the main event.

Cheers,

Alistair

I'll be able to pop in for a couple tomorrow. Won't be able to stay long as I've got another function to attend.

See you there.
