No, I am not about to moan about mooring fees!

I have been pondering a sail on Friday. Winds look good and tides fall right for an early start from Lawling Creek and a day messing about. We can get home about 1/2 after sunset. But where to go? I fancy visiting West Mersea. About three hours down river. Go ashore for a pint and lunch. Take the flood back home.

I have done this as crew in other boats but not as nominal skipper:(

I have the mobile of the WMYC launch and the VHF call sign and understand from their website that I can expect to pay a fiver.

Any advice or helpful hints? Things I should know about?

All comments welcome, thanks,

Not much else to know. There should be plenty of free moorings; suggest coming into Thornfleet to make your journey ashore shorter (leave the Packing Shed on your starbaord side. Stay close to the centre of the channel given it will be low water but there will still be plenty of water. If you call up WC1, Andrew or Doug will soon point you to a mooring. Some of the moorings there will be fishing boat moorings but this will be obvious from the heavy warps - look for something lighter. I think there will only be the one launch running so expect it not to be running during the 1pm-2pm lunch break.

Thanks

Purchased a new alarm clock for son and dropped it off at his house this eve so he should get up in time.

Also phoned WMYC and found the chap on the phone to be very helpful indeed.

Seems that if you spend a few quid in the clubhouse they do not charge for the launch. Sounds like a deal to me.

So, thanks for the help chaps.

Once more unto the breach... :)

Oh, if you are about the Blackwater tomorrow, give us a wave!

What a lovely sail...

Up at 05:30
Son picked me up at 06:00 (alarm clock worked)
Out of marina at top of tide about 07:15
Fry up on a mooring off of Osea
Lovely run down river, averaged 4kts OTG
Found correct channel into Mersea Quarters
Found correct mooring bouy
Launch chappy from WMYC very helpful
Guide dog did not fall between boat and launch
Nice lunch in WMYC + several pints of great beer.
Terrific beat back in a F4 against tide.
Fell against cooker while making coffee and set fire to Musto Jacket and Sallopetes. Crew thought this very funny!
Arrived back at 18:00
Wife seemed pleased to see me back!
Perfect day all round.
Roll on retirement! Only 5 years left.
Silly film to follow.

Our launchman is after your dog! Only sorry I couldn't meet you; doctor's given me some new pills the side effect of which is to make you feel worse than the problem they are supposed to cure!
