West Mersea Town Regatta

Round the Island Race today and while sitting at the top of Pyfleet as a Radio safety boat, we listened to the visitors seeking moorings. It's pretty crowded already; there are a great many visitors in but there are plenty of spaces on the Piles. Yes there are a few with pontoons between them.

There was a nice little piece on BBC Look East covering the RTI last night.

If they still run the single oar sculling race it is definitely something worth seeing. Amazing speeds.

Missed the BBC bit but saw the brief ITV local bit including a car being driven through the salt water over the Strood.

Quiet a few competitors yesterday caught out going anti-clockwise. Exactly as the tide turned in Pyfleet the wind dropped leaving those who were behind schedule on their 'get to the strood by HW' plan really caught out. We towed two dinghies and a cat back right from the top of Pyfleet all the way round the island which is best part of a 90 minute tow. Pretty depressing when you have just spent two hours getting there! I think there were over a douzen in that category. We get a great view right at the top of Pyfleet as everybody goes past us pretty close.

Yes I think the single scull race is still in. I shall miss it this year as I am off to Heathrow again.

Last year I went over for lunch (not knowing it was Mersea Week) and there were no free buoys. I was told to use the piles :eek: Well I got the scrape marks off eventually :o

I shall not go this year.

The harbour master always tells me I can use the piles, so I always do. I find it easier than picking up a mooring. The end one has bouyed line from one to the next, it's just a case of picking it up. It's nice and close to the landing for the dinghy, as well.
