We stayed overnight and although there has been some grumbling on the forum, I was happy to pay £10 and £2 each to go ashore. We got back free having spent some cash in the club house.

YC1 was as helpful as ever. Only drawback is having to be back on the boat by the time the launch stops running. Although am I right in thinking from previous threads that we can bring the tender in and moor as long as we are on the inside of the hammerhead?

Dont stop as often as I used to now there is the charge, but when I do I tie up to the walkway inside the hammerhead on a long painter. At Low Water the dinghy may sit in mud. Only been once this season with 3 other club boats and as we all ate in club there was no charge for moorings. Am due to go in August for a friends BBQ.

Have to admit if I am on a mooring I have better uses for £10 when someone else is welcome to be using my mooring at Pin Mill foc! (The mooring with dinghy no32 on it). Sometime they would even get a seal visit them at no extra cost.

So how does the charging of fees work then
eat in the club = free
Dont eat in WMYC = pay for a mooring to improve facilities
I thought they were stating that the charges "were to improve facilities". Not to subsidise the WMYC caterer

I may be wrong (it's happened before) but I think the concession from the Club is against the launch fees not the mooring. I think Peter benefitted from some other arrangement.

Spoke to the Water Balliff re dinghy mooring - only one rule - don't moor on the outside of the hammerhead!

Roger's right. The only thing that gets dicounted against WMYC bar/food spend is the £2 for the launch. The mooring fees are collected on behalf of Mersea Haven which is a consortium of the mooring owners and the money collected is to carry out improvements to the Haven as a whole.

The Club employs the kitchen and bar staff and doesn't use an outside caterer

Who knows? You can interrogate him if you want and perhaps issue a warrant for his arrest, maybe we should sack a launchman for failing to do his duty or maybe we should just recognise that these things happen sometimes. By the way Marconi and Paglesham clubs do not provide navigation marks do they, like the Mersea consortium (though why visitors to Mersea need them has always been beyond me)?

The Nass Bn doesnt move does it ??

Noo. It doesn't matter if a yachts rips out its bottom on that ship's windlass in the Quarters or goes on the Quarters Spit or finds the remains of the old Nass Beacon.

My mum will not go to West Mersea anymore. Not since the time we were aboard my late Gaffer and had just been through a nasty wet squall. We were tied to an outside mooring bouy and unheard by her the launch arrived on our stbd side. My dear old mum was effing and blinding like the old east-ender she is. About the weather, lack of headroom etc etc.

She turned round to find herself face to face with the launch man. Embarrassed does not do justice to her reaction:)

Made I laugh.

Hope to visit again soon, will make sure mum is on best behaviour! No problem with the fees at all.
