I am thinking of moving my boat (Nic 32) to Scotland, probably Troon Marina or Ardrossan Marina. Any advice on best place to cruise from and store for winter would be appreciated.

Go for it! Troon's a great marina - very friendly and helpful staff. Weekend sails around the Clyde, and well placed for escaping round the Mull to do some proper sailing.

We moved to Troon from the south coast last year - no regrets.

Do prefer Troon to Ardrossan as towns go by a long way- has been covered on the forums before the "delights" of Ardrossan

Have found both marinas vey easy to deal with over the last few years, Ardrossan particularly but have to say still keep my boat at Kip because it is that much nicer a place

Cannot beat Troon for user friendly marina, but then I am biased as I have been here many years. Well protected marina with outer harbour. Now has ferry service (fast cats) to Ireland. Cheap fares with Ryanair from Prestwick 5 minutes away to Stansted, Dublin, Bournemouth, Paris, Brussels, Gothenberg and 6 other destinations. The only problem can be an exposed sail to reach the next nearest and most frequent destination of Arran at 15miles distance. 32 miles to Tarbet in loch Fyne. 30nm to Campbletown for rounding the Mull....to be honest the options are endless. Just come and experiance the friendliness of the place. Good chandlery, 2 companies for repair works, 1 company for electronics and a new Bar Restaraunt due to open May.Also berth exchange tickets for sister marina at Largs....If you want more details PM me.

Paul.

Depends on what type of sailing you want and how much time you have for each visit if you have to travel far to get there. Troon is small with friendly people but as posted earlier it's a bit of a slog to get anywhere quickly if time is limited or weather dodgy. Access to West Coast is good but if that's what you want then why not berth there!.
Ardrossan is a bit basic but improving all the time with easier access for shorter trip cruising areas - Tarbet, Kyles, Bute etc. - although still a bit exposed if it's blowing a bit.
Could always look at Largs - a bit dearer but well sheltered, good hub for weekend cruising range and v. good facilities.
Why not come up for a weekend; visit them all and talk to some of the 'tenants' to get first hand opinions. Then drive up the hill behind Largs golf club, look West from the viewpoint and see what you've been missing.
