West Bay, Dorset

As no one on Scuttlebutt's been able to help me, I wonder if any of you senior chaps can?

Has anyone experience of entering and staying at the new outer harbour at West Bay? What's the maximum depth available and could I leave a 30ft. LoA, 5ft. 8in. draft yacht there for any length of time?

I have to say it looks like a 'dryer' to me! There is a phone nr for the harbour office near the bottom of the page.

Id be interested how you get on.

Crikey That used to be a REALLY,SERIOUSLY SCARY entrance if there was any sort of swell running outside, I suppose it has been improved a bit .
What about Exmouth ?

Went in and out years ago - late 70's - in an old wooden motorsailor and yep! you're right, IT WAS SCARY !! I remember aiming for the gap between the peirs and and then seemingly surfing in with virtually no control. The exit was rather like those old picutes you see of lifeboats being launched from the beach - Ah! the confidence (foolhardyness?) of youth . . . !

I'm going to be near Lyme Regis for a while, where the visitors' moorings are outside the harbour, which is why I wondered what the new outer harbour at West Bay was like.
