The Boat roller coaster carries on! Unfortunately no pics - as was pre occupied.

With all the parts to replace the window which was damaged following a mooring incident we went down to tackle the issue.

However still a little stumped at how the frame comes apart and found a LOT of screws under rubber seals so decided we didn't have time do do the job in question that day.

So packed up the tools, lovely day - Boat hadn't been started for the best part of a month and surprisingly fired first time, no issue, no rouge water drops anywhere etc..

By this time my wife had arrived with children so got them all on board and decided to try a little trip out with my intention to actually leave our Loch we are moored in.

So with flat water, sunshine - My dad left me to pilot us out and get a feel for being skipper.

Didnt really max it out - just sat at about 7 knots from half way up Loch Creran out into the straights by Lismore.

My son was delighted to be fishing my parents happy at being out with no problems and my Mrs was happy that things were actually going to plan.

We just sailed to the North of Lismore - almost to the top before the weather turned on us and we were in a torrential downpour.

With that we headed back to our Marina - We did come across a ferry type vessel which was fair moving - and the bow waves looked huge

Needless to say i headed into them bow first but got a bit of a shock at just how much wave there was - fun though!

Leisurely trip back to the pontoon where my dad took over - hes had proper lessons on handling since the window incident and then moored us up.

Once everything was unloaded we then cast back off and put her back on our swinging line. By that time soaked through!

BUT - bar 1or2 gremlins which i'll ask about lower down 1 hassle free day on the water! engines fired first time, didnt miss a beat. No panics, no mooring issues :)

What i did learn was;
the weather can change so quickly even when you can see it coming in.
Even though the GPS/plotter shows land and depth - dependant on the tide sometimes it varies
Things can go dramatically wrong if your not paying attention or panic (depth alarm went off twice while just doing 1 or 2 knots)
I need about 6 eyes to keep an eye on the water, instruments etc...

and lastly ITS AWESOME FUN WHEN IT WORKS!!!

:)

Next bigger trip ive suggested is to coast hop down to Oban and then across to Mull.

Now the gremlins...

Both drives kicked up when the engines were started After using the tilt mech to put them back down they locked. I'm a little concerned the 'jolt' from the start is kicking the retaining system to release the drive - i assume to check this out id need to be in the water obviously away from the drive?

1 of the engines doesn't seem to engage neutral very well - there seems to be a difference in both throttles in the control box - could it just be a slight adjustment to make them both work in the same manner? (basically they don't sit the same when the sticks are in the relevant positions)

A rev counter decided to stop working on us. About 5 minutes in, I'm hoping a fuse possibly? All other instruments are fine, maybe a loose wire?

fairly typical boaty trip . . .

Your tides up there are relatively small, altho they can run fast in some places. If you go further afield they can exceed 10mtrs range rather than 10 feet! Stay on the blue bits & you will mostly be OK, but do stay clear of any rocks marked. Look up the "rule of 12ths" for a quick mental arithmetic calculation to chart depths as you go.

In effect, the first hour of a tide is 1/12th of the tide's range, the second hour is 2/12ths & the 3rd & 4th hour is 3/12ths then 2/12ths & 1/12th to HW. It's a quick approximation of the tidal sin wave growth & decay over the 6hour half cycle, and is repeated on the ebb.

I will check that out

This is the first time since having the boat its been more than 2 miles from the marina - hence my need to express such a little trip lol
