Left Weymouth early on Sunday and stayed well clear of the Bill as there was a fair swell running. Had to motor around the Shambles at 11knts until we could turn and run with the wind on our backs.

Attractive though Dartmouth is we'd have gone to Torquay if we'd known it has the quaint and frustrating old fashioned habit of closing for a couple of days each week. Most restaurants were shut both Sunday and Monday night. We almost had to cook onboard.

Stayed at Darthaven on the Kingswear side and watched the strange lower car ferry, which appeared to be made up of a flat bottomed barge pushed by a tiny tug, which pulled the barge into the river, detached itself, spun around, re-attached and off it went again.

There was a new eatery up the hill in an old church, called Dartmouth Apprentice. Excellent views, interesting surroundings, good food and reasonable prices. Recommended.

Typical September weather, fell asleep on sunbed on Sunday afternoon in glorious sunshine, then spent Monday cleaning the cockpit teak as it poured with rain most of the day!

Off to Torquay today to pick up a crew member...

Take a look at those rusting spikes on the iron footbridge over the railway line, and note that the bridge itself becomes as slippery as an eel in the rain.
Skewered my hand there last year, but was too much of a wimp to let them stitch it at the little hospital almost on Dartmouth seafront, so spent the rest of the holiday dripping blood wherever I went.
Nurses were very kind, if a little unimpressed by my lack of machismo, but my confidence wasnt helped by the doctor going.. "eer-yuuk..."
I was very very careful this year !

You can only think that business must be so good that restaurants can afford to close Sun and Mon. You wouldn't catch any restaurant in Spain closing during the holiday season when there are tourists still out there ready to be fleeced

I did notice them, when we walked to the village shop. Looked out of place, as tho added later. Hope you were up to date with jabs, rusty metal not the best thing to push into your hand!

Funnily enough, they said that by my age I'd probably been stuffed full of tetanus jabs...
Must be West Country humour.

We had the same thought, early September is hardly out of season. Not sure they. Don't do it through July and August too.

This time:

Alf Resco - same as usual
Dart Cafe - best full english in town
New Angel - food good under new chef, but service properly unprofessional, doesn't go with the food at all
Spice Bazaar - used to be great, but is seemingly descending into standard curryhouse fare

Favourite this time, just for the beer, was the Cherub. You can't beat a pint of Proper Job on a day with a vowel in it...

Cheers
Jimmy

Talking of a fleece - have you topped up with fuel yet?

Last time I did in Dartmouth I was horrified at the margin over the solent prices

Fuel in Dartmouth and Salcombe ( same company ) has always been expensive. They just seem to get away with it. A lot of local boats get a tanker down to fill up.

Those are good, I would also recommend Anzac's and possibly Jan & Freddies.

I went in the Spice Bazaar once, didnt think it was like a proper Indian so have stuck with the Taj Mahal
Went to Alf resco, that was as good as usual
Spent many of wet afternoons in the Cherub, I allways have the Addlestones, they say it gets stronger the closer you get to bottom of barrel.
Royal Dart do good breakfasts and good steaks
The Ship (as reviewed in MBY, came 2nd) Kingswear was excellent, had to book as was allways full.

Will be back again at the end of the month so not sure where next?
