Went skating today on the sea

In the morning the temperature was 19C below when I walked with the Doggie person to the beach and attached the skates on my shoes. The sun was shining and the ice was crystal clear.
I skated around the bay for a couple of hours while the clouds covered the sky and flakes of feather light snow filled the air.
Finally I got back home; a nice morning have to say. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I was in Helsinki that day - minus 18c. Thank god there was no wind! I've never been anywhere so cold and must confess to being a little worried I would keep warm, but even little children were walking around without any concern.
 
-18C is easily manageable in Finland. The problem is normally handling the overwhelming heat when you go indoors (usually overheated) while still wearing thermals and many layers of jumpers, coat and hat.

Oulu, in the north, was -31C yesterday morning. That is painful.

Hopefully now the ice on the open sea will be thickening and with a good layer of snow the skiing can start.
 
Got up.... had breakfast on the veranda overlooking the bay, got too hot in the sun with a clear blue sky and not a cloud in sight.... strolled down to the marina and chatted some, drunk some coffee and went for an al fresco lunch in the sunshine!
So what the heck are all you sailors doing in the UK in winter for goodness sake!?
Get your priorities right.... sailing in the sun is priority number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.... etc etc /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
