The Wema fuel level sender fitted in my Pedro is defunct and no longer produced by WEMA. USA It is a self contained plastic tube fitted into a vertical steel tube welded to the side of the fuel tank. At the top of the unit there is a plastic spigot with a flexible plastc pipe which goes into the fuel tank. Presume it is required to prevent an air lock in the sender unit. Wema suggests their S3U unit as a replacement. How would I prevent an air lock? The S3U does not appear to have provision for the flexible plastic pipe. It would be quite a problem to drill and tap into the vertical steel tube I have only seen a photograph of the S3U and WEMA seem to be filing my e.mails at the bottom of the 'Too difficult Tray. Any help or information would be very much appreciated. James

well, the other wema sensors have a vertical tube containing reed switches - with a plastic float/magnet that slides up & down. Some have a 2nd tube outside the 1st (mainly holding tank ones - it seems.

So your sensor is definitely u/s ? been tested etc - the float hasn't fallen off?

wema seem to use std euro or us resistances - so any vertical sender shd work - if it fits. How is the original sensor fitted to the steel tube?

Re. the vent pipe - is the steel tube only connected to the inside of the tank at the base? if at top as well then the vent pipe not needed.

Have you spken to Pedro?

Yes this sender is/was a plastic tube with micro switches. The float was u/s but the tube was destroyed in order to remove it. The top of the tank steel tube is only connected to the fuel tank via the flexible plastic. The sender unit is screwed into the steel tube with a 1.25 inch BSP thread. The suggested replacement S3U uses a float moving on a resistance in a S/S tube. Will try Pedro but previous enquiry seems to indicate they have little interest in a boat they built 15 yrs ago. Thanks for your reply James

I s'pose there's no room for a m/f equal adaptor to fit between the pipe & the sender? - you could drill & tap that before installing it.

or have a 5-hole-1 1/4 bsp male adaptor made up as short as possible with a vent line in - many sender manufacturers sell a weld on flange that cd be welded to a bsp cap - the height increase wd then be minimal & use any 5-hole sensor with the correct resistance.

I have just replaced my wema sender.
The US web site is not helpful and also suggested I use a ss one .
I rang the UK agent who was very helpful and explained how these things work (How to test an open circuit, and what an open circuit was)
He told me the US site was wrong and plastic senders with the big thread are available in fact he said they could make anything, only a tube with sensors in.
He then gave me the number to ring and one came within days.
GREAT SERVICE.

Try 01454316103
If not send me a pm and I will look out the number tonight.

You need West Magnetic (only t/a wema)

Many thanks all for some real help. I will follow up the Phone number and e.mail address first thing to morrow. My previous boats, if they had an engine at all used dip sticks. I can see owning a MoBo can be interesting.
