Wells next the Sea May 2014

So jealous...... We left St Neots on Friday afternoon with the intention of reaching Wells in 3 days. Had to force our way under the bridge by the lock at Offord, thanks in part to 6 passers by and a dog as ballast! Only to find the river rising so fast that by the time we got to St Ives we could not get though the lock.
Abandoned the boat and came home. Boat still stuck in St Ives waiting for the river levels to drop.
Still.... saved £150 in diesel...... roll on the summer holidays.

We were very lucky with the weather and the river conditions. We just got through Lincoln in time before they shut the navigation, we got through at 8pm on Friday night and by saturday morning it was shut. That was our only real sticking point. We were due to head out to Wells on the saturday afternoon tide but called that off due to heavy rain, which was the right choice as we had a lovely crossing on the Sunday in glorious sunshine.

We had a couple of rubbish weather days in Wells but on the whole were really very lucky. As you can see we had a fantastic run back on the Saturday with flat calm seas all the way. Couldnt have asked for better sea conditions but a bit of sunshine would have been nice.

Now we can look forward to our summer trip to the Scottish Borders in five weeks time. :)
