My mate has finally admitted he hasn't the time or energy to restore Elve a 1929 Gentleman's Yacht on my moorings. Yippee! It breaks my heart to see her just sitting there. the fact he's going to sell it and sell it cheap pleases me no end. Someone with the skill and enthusiasm will now get her and fix her up.

She looks very like a boat which was moored at my godmother's place on Ham Haugh Island in the early 70s, where I used to live in the summer.

If it is the same boat, I spent a month renewing the canvas on the foredeck, and learning as I did it !

Ah, nostalgia ! It ain't what it used to be...

Fir interest's sake, Byron,
  • do you have any details of that class of boat, construction -
  • teak on elm?
  • Original engine - petrol? size? from the shape I assume single screw?
  • Cruising waters - she's round bilge, so not very seaworthy/
  • and so on

You have a vast knowledge of boats especially the older ones - and I have nought. So when you are playing Ba, Humbug over the next week(s) bear a thought of those less well endowed, but seeking after the truth.

You can see the boat for sale on Apollo Duck here no: 131818
The advert may not appear for a while as I have re-submitted it with some additional information.

Fuller details from the owner tbsrichard@aol.com

I can mail you interior shots.

Thanks , shes lovely . Suprised she is steel , makes me want her even more :D
Anyone want to donate to the buy coochie a stupid big boat for him to spend all his time and money on fund ........ didnt think so :D

I reckon she can be bought for a price less than the scrap value of the Steel in her. £8k to £10k should do it. Being so big it's the mooring costs that would hurt. What a stunning boat she would be restored.

Interior

Hi - shame she's been gutted, are there any interior photos prior to being stripped. Pics also look quite old, what seriously is the overall condition now please? Ta - Dave

The photos are all recent. I ain't got a clue if Richard has shots of her prior to stripping but I doubt it. He does have loads of history including the original Blueprints.

The Hull is in excellent condition having had something like £50,000 spent other than that she is a total restoration project. We don't even know if the engine is OK.

There's an amazing amount of interest been shown from boatsandoutboards.co.uk and Apollo Duck. One offer in but as it involves financing I can't see that being accepted. Some people still to view when weather improves and a couple to come back for a second look.

Well she's sold. This afternoon a young man paid cash for it. She will stay here a while and eventually be moved down near Hampton.
