I first learnt to tie bowlines as a rock climber and within the climbing club you weren't considered proficient at them until you could tie them that way 'first time, every time' AND with either hand. I've just had a go now; I can still do it right handed OK but it took me four tries to get a decent one left handed ☹️

This is how i have always done it, of course you don't need the rope behind your back, just do it in front, it works for tying genoa sheets,
