not that I watched the game, or even remember who they were playing .......... some remote country a long way away where their football players dont earn squillions I think /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

but - FFS, a win 1-0 and that was apparantly cos one of their team put it in the net /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif no /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, the problem was they took off Owen (the only striker) so in the 2nd half everyone kept passing forward, but there was no one there. So they other team got the ball.

This caused our brave lads to be a bit on the back foot. Plus it was hot and as the captain (Beckham?) said exhaustion set in so it all went abit down hill.

Good job they got an own goal then.

I don't know anything about football but apparently the other side got a goal which was good for us as it was the wrong goal.

There. I know all about football, but I'm still learning about sailing

I hate football, but I reckon the tv commentators were all numptys, it is blindingly obvious why Sven took Owen off during the second half: we were one nil up, he wanted to protect his key player (as Rooney is definately not fit for several more games) and he did not rate Paraguay as a significant threat.

I almost fell asleep during that second half because England effectively closed down the game, at only one point did Paraguay threaten our goal line, yes there was no striker for Beckham to pass to when on the attack but to you only need to be a goal ahead to win the game.

Considering all the commentators in the studio were former pro players why the hell were they moaning about Owen coming off. Bunch of idiots!!

It was called an own goal because the superb free kick from Beckham was deflected slightly by the Paraguayan player. The TV reply clearly showed it would have gone in the net regardless of the deflection and said the goal may be credited to Beckham, but the decision is taken later for that after videos are studied - I guess because there are lots of bets made on who scores when and how many, so money is at stake.

In any case the results tables don't have videos, just 3 points for a win!

Yes I'm sure this is what Sven was thinking.

I just heard the major catastrophe soundbite. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I only came back here to see what you football hooligans were saying. I checked the score after watching Mythbusters and watering the lawn.

Well done! Those Trinidadian and Tobboganing lads certainly tested the boys to the fullest extent and I am sure that having run rings around the islanders, Brazil and the others will be toast to the English onslaught.

Are we playing Andorra? Now that should be a nailbiter.
