"Subject: Waterways Management Restructure - Thames

I am pleased to announce that we have successfully appointed a new
Strategic Waterways Manager, Angela Quayle and two Operations Managers,
Gail Bradstock (West Area) and Andrew Graham (South East Area).

These appointments will take effect from 1st January 2009.

Mark Rowe will continue to cover the Waterways management role until the
transition is complete. Accountability for operations will move
across to the Area Teams from Jan 2009 but there will be a transitional
arrangement for managing below this level and further information about
this will follow in due course.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark - who has made a
conscious decision to pursue other options within the Region - for the
excellent work he has done over the past few months and to wish him well
for the future.

I know you will all join me in wishing Angela, Andrew and Gail every
success in their new roles.

Howard Davidson
Regional Director, Thames"

You mean the Stategic Waterways manager is a member of this forum /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif should we all wear shirt's now while posting. All replies to angela should be with forlock tipped and preceeded with "ma'am".

Congratulations AngelaQ!

Will we get the river dredged now and the trees cut?

(Simple question, will Angela grace us with an answer??)

This is all wonderful (and I am sure and will fill another "River Views" with more back slapping)
-
BUT for the average boater on the river, we just want to have the river maintained properly, not really bothered who does it as long as somebody does....

Otherwise its just like promoting Number 2 on the Titanic to captain?

Well up near me they dredged Benson this year, all the trees are being cut back in Clifton cut and every lock will now be electric, things are happening.
Would like to see that dredger around a bit more though.

Well nearly

Three more to go:-

Marlow - pig to wind
Whitchurch - Lockie always on days off, bottom gate is a pain
Iffley - well I can suffer that.

Not complaining, the can't all be done at once, and even last year's efforts were pretty good, it's just the remaining clockwork ones that stick out like a sore thumb...

If I read River Views correctly , Blakes is on the list?? Why It's a lovely "proper" lock with balance beams and nice sluices - what's the point?

Anyway congrats AQ, but I suppose you'll be too important to post here any more....

The problem with Whitchurch is that you have to really struggle to wind it and then when you get to Goring (which is electric) you find there's a relief on duty, why can't he be relocated to Whitchurch.
Perhaps one of the routines that Angela can introduce early in her office?

Ah, apologies - my catch-all phrase. Should have been more general - Lock unattended.

Some locks appear to suffer more than this syndrome than others. Wrong staff in wrong place; can't get summer assistant to work on that lock. And so on

Nothing to do with actual staff personally, just heavy gear.
