Have booked Hampshire Maid (SCOD) out of the Orwell from 2-6th May, looking for suggestions as to where to visit. Prefer quiet anchorages to busy marinas but if there's a good pub than that's fine too! So far have done Orwell, Stour, Walton Backwaters, Lowestoft and Southwold.

She's a 1.6m draught long keeler, and it's springs that week so I wonder if that might restrict us a bit?

Any suggestions welcome, and if you see us give us a wave!

Deben & Ore

Thirded, if that's a word. You should be able to lie overnight at Iken if you want, but make sure it's a rising tide both arriving and leaving. Good binoculars needed for the birds.

Erm... Where's Iken?

Ore and/or Deben are definite possibilities. East Coast Rivers pilot suggests entry an hour or two after low water but I'm guessing that on springs with a 1.6m draught we'd be better off going for an hour or two before high water, still giving us enough tide to lift us off if we cock it up?!

Just a word of warning.
If there is any East in the wind and it is stronger than F5 don't try to enter or leave the Deben on the Ebb.
It will be very rough on the Bar.

Thanks Clive, if we do go I plan to try and enter / leave on the tail end of the flood. (And if it's much stronger than a F5 I'll be staying in the pub anyway!)
