Hello all,got a dropkeel plate from a Hunter Tracer which is broken in two!Not sure of the exact material, whether it's cast or wrought iron or just plain old steel.Maybe someone knows what the metal is?Would like to know if anyone can recommend a good welder in Kent/Surrey area.Cheers!

Force Five Engineering, The Upper Brents, Faversham. They did an excellent job, and charged a very reasonable price. They also recognised the bent piece of yacht I was holding which always helps..
no connection etc Jerry

If flat most likely steel if shaped almost certainly cast iron. I suspect cast iron because steel usually bends.

Cast iron is not that easy to weld AND get a strong joint. Perceived wisdom requires preheating and controlled cooling. Even then adjacent cracking is common.

Cast iron foundries usually are experienced, also blacksmiths. Avoid a steel welder who happens to have a packet of cast iron rods.
