Hi My 40 HP Evinrude (2 stroke) has had it's day, so I have just purchased a 2006 Yamaha 30 HP ( 4 stroke/3 cylinder ) I am concerned about the weight on the back of my little Dory.
Would appreciate some advice.
Many Thanks

I suspect that your old 2 stroke weighs much more than the newer 4 stroke does.

Years ago I had a 14'6 Dell Quay and it went very well with a 30hp on her so I would not be too worried about the drop in HP.
My guess is the lower weight of the new engine will even it all out.

If you can get hold of a manual for the old engine you should be able to find the weight of it best I can find for the newer engine can be sen here -
www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/07_curr_models_web.pdf although it does seem to jump from a 20hp to 40 hp.no mention of a 30 at all oddly.

I have found a post that reckons it is about 62kg but I suspect that is a bit light and it is nearer 85/90kg. Try calling a Yamaha dealer such as BHG Marine in Lymington as they are very helpful.

Mike.
