Hi, I need to find the weight of my Colvic Sunquest 29 ,as I wish to transport her by road to my place of work, for a winter refit. Can anyone tell me where in Southampton I can have a quick ,not too costly lift,to find this information.

A modern boat hoist can give you a weight plus or minus 10%.

To weigh accurately you would need load cells.

I would have thought your boat weighs about 4 tons?

Berthons in lymington have a Marinetravelift with a weight read out.

Considering the weight and the beam, your boat has to be transported by truck,
Try to find a friend / truckowner who can do the job, and drive along a truck weighing platform with and without the boat. The truckdriver certainly knows where he can do this,
then the weighing could almost be for free
good luck

My guess is around 5 Tonnes, dependant on machinery, however if you say 6 Tonnes you should be well on the safe side for the transport company with no farting around.

As posted elsewhere when you get the boat lifted on to the transport the crane/lift will give you a good figure

'' boat hoist can give you a weight plus or minus 10%''

Not great!!

i am going to get lifted / weighed soon by hoist because i want to know my weight to re-prop my boat for a better top end.

why do you say +/-10%....is that because of the mechanism being inherently flawed or because they are not tested and thus become out of true?

is +/- 10% good enough for calculations for props?

The guages measure the hydraulic pressure in the lines for each hydraulic winchand the pressure depends on the angle of the lift and the mechanical frictions so its pretty rough but the manufacturers reckon + or -10%.

The boat manufacturers only measure boat one and have little idea of the variances between each boat built.
